#WhatTheaterMeansToMe Fundraiser
#WhatTheaterMeansToMe
Founded in 2013, Drama Club uses relationship-building through theatre to combat the traumas of mass incarceration. The mission is to provide theater training and positive mentor relationships to youth throughout each step of their journey through the criminal justice system: detention, placement and re-entry.
Vulnerable Youth In Increased Need: Incarcerated populations are facing infection rates 7 times higher than the rest of New York City. Youth most impacted by incarceration are often the most vulnerable and this is especially true during this crisis they are facing even greater insecurities in housing, food, and income than ever before.
Drama Club is responding to the arising needs of our community-based students.
To address the heightened risks for those incarcerated, Drama Club contributed our voice to an advocacy campaign to pressure governors to take stronger actions in protecting those working and living within confinement.
To continue to mentor and help navigate through uncertainty, we’ve moved classes to virtual settings, at least 3 days a week.
To address growing insecurities our youth face, we’re providing hot meals to participants’ during our group mentorship meetings.
You Can Support Vulnerable NYC Youth:
